Class Descriptions

  • Gentle Yoga - Easy pace with an emphasis on breathing and relaxation.  Best choice for most older, inflexible, or pregnant students.
  • Basic Yoga - Moderate pace, best for most beginners.
  • Mixed-Level Yoga - Medium pace, with variations for different levels of student ability and experience.
  • Mindful Yoga - Emphasizes moving mindfully with a restorative and experimental approach. The deep focus on mindful awareness and free movement will appeal to experienced students, but physically the class is gentle enough for all levels.
  • Vinyasa - A vigorous, flowing, and challenging form of Hatha Yoga. Suitable for experienced students. Not for beginners or students with serious inflexibility or injuries.
  • Yin Yoga - A rejuvenating and mindful practice in which postures are held for several minutes each. The stillness takes practitioners deep into postures that stretch the fabric of the body. Appropriate for injury-free students of all levels.
  • Yoga & Meditation - An hour-long of mixed-level yoga class followed by a 30-minute seated meditation. Beginners and experienced meditators welcome.
  • Qigong - [chee-gong] Characterized by mindful movement and awareness of energy (Qi), Qigong is an ancient practice rooted in Chinese Taoist tradition.

What is Hatha Yoga?
All of our Yoga classes fall into the category of Hatha Yoga.  Hatha describes any practice of yoga postures (asanas) and breathwork (pranayama).  A common misunderstanding is that Hatha Yoga is a "style" of yoga, often thought to be gentler than others.  But actually, the vast majority of today's yoga styles, including the most vigorous ones, are just different forms of Hatha Yoga.  Vinyasa, Iyengar, and Bikram Yoga are all styles of Hatha Yoga.

At Tucson Yoga, our instructors come from diverse yoga backgrounds, and our classes incorporate a blend of styles, varying from one teacher to the next, but all Hatha Yoga.
