Staying Connected
Tucson Yoga communicates over email as much as possible, to save the costs of creating printed materials. We ask all students to please join our email list to help us communicate with you. Our emails include class schedule updates and information about workshops and special events. We are very respectful of your privacy, and we won't send more than 1-2 messages per month. You can also unsubscribe from this list at any time (instructions are included at the bottom of each message).

Class Guidelines

  • Mats - Students are asked to bring their own yoga mat.  If you need to borrow on of our studio mats, we ask for a donation of $1 (free if it's your first class with us).  Where to get an affordable mat.
  • Cell Phones - Please turn your cell phone off before entering the studio, or leave it at home or in your car.  Note that the vibrate setting on most phones *can* be heard in the quiet of our studio, so please turn the ringer completely off.
  • Fragrances - Please do not wear perfumes or scented body care products - these scents may disturb your neighbors in class.
  • Valuables - Our lobby area contains cubby-holes where you can store your shoes, bags and clothing. However, this area is not fully secured from theft. Please do not leave any valuables - take them into the studio area with you. Tucson Yoga cannot take responsibility for lost or stolen items.
  • When to Arrive - Doors open 15 minutes prior to class start time. Teachers often come earlier to warm up with their own yoga practice, so please respect this time. However, please come at least 5 minutes before start time, so that you're arranged in your space and ready to go when class begins.  You can use extra time to relax and warm up before class begins.
  • Latecomers - Lateness has been a problem at Tucson Yoga lately, and we're becoming less tolerant of it.  Latecomers tend to be much louder than they realize when entering a room of quiet people.  Please plan to arrive at least 5 minutes before class begins, so that you're arranged in your space and ready to begin at the start time.  Plan extra time to navigate downtown traffic, especially during afternoon rush hour.  If you arrive late and the opening meditation has already begun, please enter silently, sit quietly near the door, and wait until the quiet period is complete (usually the first 5-10 minutes of class). Wait until some movement begins before arranging yourself or your space.
  • Courtesy in Full Classes - Our floor has mat lines for large classes-- when the room starts looking full, we'll ask all students to align the front edge of their mat with the nearest line to help make room for everybody.
  • Is Class Full? - Our yoga studio holds 40 students at a time. If the sign-in sheet is not full, then there's still room.  When you enter a large class, look for available mat guidelines on the floor, or ask someone to make room. TIP: There's usually a lot more space available at the far (west) end of the room.
  • How to Avoid Crowded Classes - Many students enjoy the energy of a full class, but some prefer smaller classes.  If you want to find smaller classes, our website offers a listing of the average class attendance over the past two months: Small Class Listing
  • Injuries and Illness - Please tell each instructor about any injuries or major illness (past or present) or physical limitations you have, so that s/he can offer you safety tips and alternative poses where necessary.
  • Please wait outside quietly when you arrive early.  A previous class may still be in session.  Noise from outside, even out on the sidewalk in normal conversation tones, tends to carry into our classroom.  Students in meditation are often subjected to hearing an entire phone conversation outside by someone who has no idea that anyone's listening!  Thank you.
  • Between 6:45 and 7:00 pm on weekdays, the front desk and lobby area can get quite congested, with one class leaving and another arriving.  To decrease congestion, those arriving for the 7:00 class are welcome to wait until after class to sign in, buy passes and talk to the teacher.  Students in 5:30 classes are encourage to arrive early enough to sign in and make all purchases before class.
