Yoga Sutras Seminar
Yoga is considered one of the six classical philosophical systems of India, and the “Yoga Sutras” of Patanjali are considered the seminal text. Within the four chapters and 195 sutras, Sage Patanjali lays out what is sometimes called a "roadmap of consciousness."
The sutras are a profound and worthy subject of study and contemplation for any level of student or teacher. They clearly articulate how to traverse the yogic path and what to expect along the way. In some cases you will find a new context for experiences you have already had, and in other cases you will clearly see a new horizon. It is always rewarding.
In these five sessions, you will acquire a foundation for reading and using the text. As a group we will work with particular sutras in each chapter, and you will be given practical assignments that help you apply them in the context of your daily life and personal practice. Any translation of the sutras can be used as a text - Swami Satchitananda’s is recommended. A manual and mp3 audio is included in the course fee.
No prior knowledge of the Yoga Sutras is necessary for this introductory course - just a sincere desire to study and learn. Continuing education credits are available for yoga teachers registered with the Yoga Alliance, for 15 CEUs.

"It is truly a blessing to have the sutras in my life, at the foundation of my practice. My teacher Rama was always very reverent about them. It took me years to understand much of what she was talking about. Now I do, from both a personal and teacher point of view, and I am honored to pass it on. I have a degree in divinity and have read most of the world’s scriptures; the Sutras are my go-to text always. This is why I call my practice “Yoga at Heart” - no matter what I'm doing, Yoga is the heart of it. I hear Rama’s words now, “Hold to the center,” which applies to anything and everything that carries us away - which is life - which is why it helps to study the sutras."
