Forgiving Dr. Mengele
No Film in December: Happy Holidays!!!!
Inspired by the book of the same name, written by Dean Sluyter, Cinema Nirvana is a monthly film series that will entertain and enlighten! Each month, we’ll screen a film, introduced by Dharma Teacher Poep Sa Frank Jude Boccio, followed by a relaxed group discussion.
This Fall season of Cinema Nirvana begins with the philosophical argument laid out in David O. Russell’s i ♥ huckabees in what amounts to a debate between two of the most important schools of Buddhist philosophy: the Madhyamaka and Yogacara schools.
Following that, in celebration of Halloween, we return with another episode from Buffy the Vampire Slayer that explores what happens when we decisively choose to finally face our worse fears.
The fall season ends with a presentation of Cinema Nirvana’s fist documentary. Forgiving Dr. Mengele presents the story of the controversial concentration camp survivor Eva Mozes Kor and questions the nature of forgiveness itself.
Movie night is offered free of charge. Donations are gratefully accepted for local charities.
See you at the movies!
